Community Service
In an effort to encourage high school students to impact the lives
of others, Berean Academy students will have a community
service requirement to graduate from high school. The goal of the
program is to be “salt and light” in the community by serving and
representing Christ to others.
Required Hours of Service
Class of 2012: 40 hours
Class of 2013: 60 hours
Class of 2014 & Beyond: 75 hours
Volunteer services may be for a not-for-profit organization or
other verified charitable cause and should be pre-approved by
the administration to assure its applicability to the graduation
requirement.
Examples: hospitals, parks, summer camping programs, animal
shelters, community projects, libraries, churches, etc.
Proof of service must be in the form of a letter from the
organization on letterhead stating how much time students served
and a brief description of the activities. Proof of service may also
be documented by the completion the Academy's community
service documentation form.
Community service hours will count toward the graduation
requirement beginning the summer prior to the students’
freshman year of high school.
A record of community service hours will be part of the students’
permanent school records.
